She began doing the research for fan fiction she was writing. I wish there were books like this about each member of the Fellowship. It was a very informative, comprehensive and enjoyable book. Probably, because I tend to stick to the big name Tolkien scholars–not because I am a snob, but because they tend to be available on Kindle or in online scholarly journals and I have serious vision problems. OMG! I’d read it in a heartbeat if it were a little less expensive and/or available in e-book format. I wish there were more studies like this printed by dedicated fans, because one cannot underestimate the amount of knowledge of Tolkien’s work that goes under-the-radar because it is not published or wellpublicized or exists and is known in more narrow circles circulating informally without a connection by the amateur Tolkienist to mainstream academia. @heartofoshun this was a ‘merry Xmas to me’ with my Amazon gift card! It’s actually 8 1/2x11 (so bigger than your average book) with fairly decent size type. I am sorry it is not on electronic format. I agree with you that it is too bad more of this type of study is not published or accessible. She really has done a very good job at showing Aragorn’s importance in the continuum of Tolkien’s work, not just his deeds in LOTR. It is a detailed character analysis written in a very approachable and engaging style. I only wish she would write more books like this. I just tracked her down online to tell her how much I liked her book but I did leave an Amazon review as well. -- source link
