timwhitaker:Hear all on Mighty Radio.Chess Records, originally a 1950s and 60s pillar in the recording business when it came to Black music, particularly blues, gospel, soul, jazz, R&B and doo-wop. Based in Chicago, they developed an unbelievable roster and catalog of legendary musicians, and were also known for having great studio session musicians, some of whom went on to start their own bands such as Earth, Wind, & Fire. They sold well, but only had one Billboard #1, Chuck Berry’s “My Ding-a-ling” in 1972, and by the 1980s they fell into ruins. Their entire catalog was quickly acquired by MCA Records, which began releasing compilations such as the one above and selling their story, which became the subject of two movies "Cadillac Records" and “Who Do You Love?”, both based on the history of Chess Records. -- source link
