herowyn:The Great Comet of 1997 was one of the brightest comets to streak our skies, and was visible to the naked eye for a record 569 days, over 18 months. A spectacular sight, it was visible at its peak well before nightfall. In March, a solar eclipse that spanned China, Mongolia and eastern Siberia allowed observers there to see the comet in the daytime. To this day, the comet is still being tracked by astronomers, and is predicted to stay observable until 2020, at which point it will become very difficult to distinguish from the large numbers of distant galaxies of similar brightness. -- source link
