I shouldn’t make ALL my posts for Parasyte (寄生獣, Kiseijuu) about the bad English translation available online, but here’s an example of the finer details being lost. Some bullies were throwing rocks at a cat (they had buried it up to its neck in the sand), when Shinichi freed it and lectured them about respecting living creatures. As he walked away, the bullies threw their rocks at him, but Migi catches all of the rocks. Shinichi then turns around and gives them this look.食ってやろうか (kutte yarouka) means “Shall I eat them?” The use of “eat” (rather than “kill”) here is very important, because it’s not clear whether it’s Migi thinking this, or Shinichi, which is an important part of the character development. But that’s completely lost in this translation. -- source link
