Sitting at the dinner table in his Trazegnies castle between his two wives Marie and Gracienne, he felt uneasy.“Marie, when I was told you were dead, there was no reason for me to ever return to Hainaut. And without Gracienne, who saved my life countless times, I would not have survived in those lands. Marie, I swear, I will never again have carnal relations with her unless you are the first to die.”Marie, ever a perfect wife, was not having any of this. She felt she had more than done her duty, never remarrying and waiting for Gillion like some Penelope, raising his sons, and taking care of his lands and castle. “May it never please God that I ever have intercourse or association with you. I’d rather be a nun, spending the rest of my life praying for you.”Gracienne too dropped a bombshell, "I will never accept that, you are his rightful wife, Marie, and I will not rob of your lord but will serve you and keep you loyal company, regardless of the fact that I am daughter of a great emperor.”Gillion could hardly believe it, each of his two wives was in competition with the other to give him up! And it just went from bad to worse. Within days, Marie and Gracienne who were sooo on the same page, asked him to let them take the veil together so they could pray for his sins.He went from having two wives to ending up with none overnight! What did he do so wrong that made Marie plead with him to let her and Gracienne never again “suffer the tyranny of any carnal contact with you by night or day?”What will Gillion do, will he let Marie and Gracienne enter the cloister together?
