The Tenth Street Studio (1880), William Merritt Chase (American, 1849-1916). Oil on canvas. Saint Louis Art Museum.In 1879 Chase established a studio at the famed Tenth Street Studio Building in New York. The artist wanted to create a persona and style that would evoke his cosmopolitan refinement. Chase employed bold brushwork and lush colors in striking visual harmonies. The painting is crammed full of exotic treasures Chase had collected during his travels. Chase is in shadowed profile at the far right. -- source link
