The city of Cantlu'un. The continent surrounding this city was once fertile and prosperous. Beset by a 1000 year old curse the only remaining sign of life or civilization is the city of Cantlu'un. The ancient beacons surrounding Cantlu'un prevent the curse’s encroachment. Outside the city, harsh sandstorms block out the sun and pulverize nearly anything that attempts to pass through them. All trade and production is confined within the city or transported by magic means at a high cost. The city’s mostly human population is intertwined with a gnomish kingdom which mostly inhabits the domelike structures of the lower section. The cohabitation occurred out of necessity once the curse was set and has endured ever since. While the two groups inhabit the same city they maintain separate governments and cultural identities. The human royal family preserves a walled sanctuary towards the south of the city which houses many of the now otherwise extinct animals of the once verdant continent. -- source link
