Okay, so let’s all take a moment and appreciate that BMO – Finn and Jake’s endearing little robot friend – is genderless. As an electronic (sentient or otherwise) BMO does not have a physical/sexual gender, nor an identified one. This has been consistent throughout the series, as BMO has never been called “He” “Her” “Him” Etc.. Likewise, in an episode called “BMO Lost”, BMO befriends and eventually is proposed to…by a Bubble. Bubbles – as defined by the laws of physics, nature, and general logic – lack a specific or definable gender. In another episode, BMO invites a “bunch of Bikini Babes” to “come over and dance to this song!” Once again, keeping it completely gender/sex/sexual identity neutral. Pendleton Ward confirmed at a recent comicon that BMO is genderless and that is why BMO is unchanged in the Fiona and Cake episodes. So this is a shout out to the writers for giving BMO completely gender-neutral dialog, attitude, and story lines. BMO is a companion, a popular character, and a perfect example of how sexuality/gender/physicality don’t need to be addressed for a character to be interesting/fall in love/be loved/have story-lines/be entertaining and relatable. Thank you Staff of Adventure Time, for creating such an incredible, positive show. -- source link
