So tonight I made the inner lining for my proof of concept crypt drawer. It wasn’t the neatest of jobs. I was using fabric scraps so they’re not perfectly sized. Still, this gave me a good idea of whether this was too small, too large etc. I have to size this for the largest doll so Doll Chateau Christina and Dolores are both much taller than Iplehouse Bianca shown here. You can see in the first two photos that she’s closed in by the cushions but has ample space. In the next two we can see that there’s plenty of leg room. The next two show how much head room she has. The last shot shows that her arms tuck into the cushions almost under her. I do want these drawers to be a tight fit. The inner space measures about 28 inches. Which is shorter than DC Dolores. However, I think with custom cushions this will work if he has slightly bended knees. To make sure this is workable I had to think about what the day to day logistics would be. Pulling the drawers out or putting them in means possible doll slippage. So for my Bianca here I would definitely fill in the space with deeper padding. Unlike my coffins where I make them nice and roomy so they can hang out as well as sleep in them, this would be a nighty-night spot. There’s the possibility that I would be using this as a table and it would get moved around so again, the cushions would have to be designed doll by doll for perfect immobilizing padding. Because there is definitely more room than necessary top to bottom I considered making the drawer shallower. Then I started thinking that if I was inserting a drawer carelessly at an angle the possibility would arise to bump a nose or something. So a little extra room is preferable. The next step is to figure out the logistics of what sort of extra space a drawer needs to slide in to the crypt itself. I’ve been thinking that I could probably go ahead and build the basic crypt shell and use the mat board drawer to test “slide in size”. Then when I build the wooden drawers I can know how much adjustment I’ll have to make. I’ll likely borrow my friends table saw for this project. The rough cuts at Home Depot are not likely to “cut’ it here where things need to be more exact. -- source link
