Pectoral of the Rising SunThis pectoral was discovered inside an inlaid box of ebony and ivory with an inscription that read, “gold jewelry for the funerary procession from the bedchamber of Nebkheperure”. This was Tutankhamun’s coronation name. Here can be seen a representation of the rising sun. In the middle we see the god Khepri pushing the sun-disc above his head. On either side of him are baboons, each with a lunar crescent and moon above his head. They are helping with the rebirth of the sun. Together they sit on the solar boat, framed by was-sceptres (symbol of prosperity) at either side, and the sky above them. Made out of gold, lapis lazuli, carnelian, glass and other semi-precious stones. From the Tomb of Tutankhamun (KV62), Valley of the Kings, West Thebes. Now in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo.
