blacklinguist:linguisten:And I will judge *you* for gratuitously tagging that drivel with the #linguistics tag. i hate when people post something tangentially related to LANGUAGE itself and be like ‘#linguistics’ … like you’re not a linguist, you’re an annoying twit ! look i don’t often have the sudden sheer rage it takes to reblog and disagree with something like this…… but are we really going to be gatekeeping here? really??i’m a linguist and I absolutely believe that post belongs in the linguistics tag. the punctuation and capitalization of the word “ok” absolutely changes the meaning and intended function and as a linguist i find that absolutely fascinating. you could do entire research papers on the way the casual/purposeful spelling and grammar of the internet has changed the way young people interpret language.and it’s quite possible the OP had none of those studies in mind when they posted this, and that’s valid. when i’m scrolling through the linguistics tag i absolutely would love to see cute posts like this mixed in every so often with the long unreadable academic jargon of “real linguists.” even if you don’t want to see it, it’s a two-line post and takes less than a second out of your day.y’all are just rude. -- source link
