Day 2: Physical Status [#30 day OC challenge]Briefly describe your character’s physical appearance. Are they able-bodied or disabled? Quell is all long lines and angles. Able-bodied, leggy, on the taller side for an elf. His tendency to wear looser shirts/layers adds to his willowy appearance. His hands are long and bony, with visible sinews, and rough callouses on his fingers and palms of his hands. He has dark brown hair that grays to an ashy color by the time of the Exalted Council. Stark pale gray eyes that burn green whenever he uses the Anchor. His face is longish, a bit hollow, with a high nose bridge, and dark, thick eyebrows. Emotes with his eyebrows more than his mouth. Has freckles predominantly across his cheeks and nose, as well as along his shoulders, arms, neck and back. He gets dimples on his cheeks when he laughs or smiles in earnest – something he shares with his mother. Posture: A practiced poise that suggests he’s no stranger to being under high levels of scrutiny. Crosses his arms a lot. Tends to slouch a bit in casual settings. Old habits die hard. Quell has Mythal’s vallaslin which covers most of his face, in a way, like a mask. The design has three lines on his lower lip versus the standard design with the single line across both lips. He received the vallaslin on his throat when he was chosen to be First, a visible oath that he is prepared to shoulder the responsibility of speaking on behalf of his People. Are they comfortable with their looks/body, or did they wish their body was different? For the most part, he’s comfortable with his body, though he doesn’t regard anything especially unique about his look. He knows that a coy smile or two when working out trade agreements tends to work in his favor with some merchants. As shallow as it is, he can’t help but be a bit envious of people with a more built/muscular physique. He is self-conscious about his missing right tooth, and could do without the scar on his lip. He does wish he didn’t look so much like his father; the resemblance is uncanny when he scowls. Sometimes, he catches his reflection with a hard expression on his face and it startles him. He’s not exactly sure what he’d rather look like though…Do they have any significant scars? The silvery bite marks on the sides of his fingers are from when he freed a (very angry) squirrel tangled in a fishing net that was hung out to dry on an aravel. A scar across his mouth on the right side curls his lip up slightly. The injury might’ve been able to be healed properly by the Keeper, if he hadn’t rushed it and tried to heal it himself. He’s also missing a tooth on that side. After joining the Inquisition, he racks up quite a few from various conflicts. Later on, during his lowest point after losing Clan Lavellan, a moment of carelessness results in the large gash down the side of his head/face. The Anchor leaves behind raised Lichtenberg-esque scars up his left shoulder and spread across the left side of his torso. How fit are they? He’s quite fit from an active Dalish lifestyle, and can run/walk for long distances comfortably. Back during life with the clan, yoga-like exercises were a part of his training to increase focus and become more conscious of the flow of magic through the body, as well as to train strength/flexibility. He has a very lean built (maybe too thin, according to some), but is stronger than he looks. However, he lacked the stamina needed for prolonged battles, making the fights in the Hinterlands quite exhausting at first until he gained more endurance. What is their experience with the Anchor? If/when they lose their hand, how does that go? How do they handle it afterwards? At first, the Anchor feels alien and painful, like it’s grating against the flow of his own magic. With time and practice, he became more in sync with the Anchor as another channel of magic to tap into, finding that he even enjoys the sensation of it sparking through his body. A primary reason he chose to become a Rift Mage was to further his understanding of the Anchor. However, when the Anchor starts to progress more aggressively a couple months before the Exalted Council, he starts to have episodes similar to when he first received the Anchor: high fevers, dizziness, like his bones are on fire. His handwriting starts to deteriorate as his left hand develops a noticeable tremor – Josephine finally persuades him to let her hire a scribe for him to orate his reports. He still penned his letters to Dorian himself, trying his best to keep his hand as steady as possible. Quell’s arm was amputated right above his elbow. Though he’s relieved to be free of the Anchor, he loathes how dependent he is during recovery. He makes a conscious effort to keep positive and forward – even though the Inquisition has disbanded, there is work to be done – but between his arm, the revelation of Solas and the Evanuris, and having to relearn basic skills like dressing himself and writing, he carries a lot of self-hatred, disgust at his naivete to use the Anchor, as well as loss, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Dorian’s steadfastness – even after returning to Tevinter – is something Quell can never thank him enough for, and he fights to recover as fast as possible so that he can support Dorian and his cause. -- source link
