randalltrang:In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, let’s also honor John Lewis - the last surviving Civil Rights leader to speak at the Lincoln Memorial after MLK’s March on Washington (right before his famous “I Have a Dream” speech). His graphic novels: MARCH (Book One) and MARCH (Book Two) are available from Top Shelf now, and they are great. Go get ‘em.History is important, and the Civil Rights Movement is as relevant now as ever. Learning from folks who were actually there helps bring stories you usually read about in textbooks into the context of real life. All this happened just a couple generations ago. Your grandparents would remember this like it was yesterday. It’s not as far back as most people think! It was the greatest honor to meet and speak with Congressman John Lewis last year at spx. He was generous with his time and his harrowing stories. I’ve encountered plenty of people at conventions who have inspired me as an artist, but Mr. Lewis was an inspiration as a person. Like the title says: Real-life superhero.Repost to honor Rep. John Lewis this week. Keep fighting, Congressman! -- source link
