DespujolsiteOne of the rarities of the mineral world is this calcium manganese sulphate named after the founder of the Geological Survey of Morocco, who discovered it in its type locality there in 1968. It forms in manganese deposits after alteration by oxygen rich waters has transformed the primary minerals into secondary ones such as this one. Colour varies from the beautiful deep yellowy green of the centimetre long crystal in the photo, to a paler yellow. It is too soft (2.5 on Mohs hardness scale) to be carved or faceted without disintegrating.LozImage credit: Rob Lavinsky/iRocks.comhttp://www.mindat.org/min-1269.htmlhttp://bit.ly/1qUc08a -- source link
