yay855:charlesoberonn:spazztastic-muffin:“Okaasan always said life is like a box of Mochi”Okay but like they already do that“Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo”“Huckleberry no Bōken”“Hakugei: Legend of the Moby Dick”It’s called cultural adaptation. It’s when you take a story from another culture and edit it to work within your own.The main difference is that, unlike in the 80s when intercultural exchange was more limited, the internet has made other cultures ridiculously easy to view. What was once foreign is now much less so.That said, Death Note isn’t about race. It doesn’t make a difference whether the characters are Japanese or not- the Japanese influence is there, true, but renaming the Shinigami to Demons wouldn’t really change much. And before you get all pissy: the Fullmetal Alchemist movie is going to have an Asian cast, even though it takes place in Fantasy Germany and its main characters are named Edward and Alphonse, and I don’t see nearly as many people getting upset about that. -- source link
