wearepaladin:meanwhilebackinthedungeon:Herr Mannelig – ballad that tells the story of a female mountain troll who proposes marriage to a knight. Interesting. According to the Ballad itself, it’s implied that the troll woman is cursed somehow, and that along with offering many gifts to be accepted, she is also being deceitful somehow. Either she would somehow be cured if he accepted her proposal, or she’d pass the curse onto him. The ballad doesn’t quite clarify. Either way, he refuses her because she’s not a good christian woman and she runs away. This story needs a sequel. I want to know more about this troll woman and what happens to her. Would the knight reconsider if he knew his acceptance would remove her curse? Or would the story stick to the Christianity=good, Paganism=Bad themes? Probably, but it would still be something nice to read.On second thought, maybe it was best he refused her. If anything I’ve read from old fairy tales is anything to go buy, fae offering gifts like that is almost certainly a trap. Even if she was being sincere, the alien mindset of the fae might not recognize what is beneficial to them would be harmful or discordant to humans. -- source link
