whistiel: Rewatching 1x1 I noticed something I never caught before — the way Dean looks at Sam after his little brother was able to quickly pull up the search result they were looking for after Dean was struggling to find it. Moments before Dean was pulling attitude after Sam pushed him out of the way, smacking Sam’s arm and calling him a control freak. But in this split second, it shows Dean reacting to his brother finding the search, and you can see how truly grateful he is to have his trusty sidekick geek boy back by his side again. And I know this is nothing compared to the hell they go through together in the years to come, but it still makes me sad to think of smol Dean during the two years without Sam. The nights he spent frustrated in front of the computer screen because growing up, it had always been Sam who was in charge of the research. Then there were the lonely hunts, and the unsuccessful conversations with locals because again, Sam always seemed better at being the one to handle situations where emotions needed to be involved, as Sam had always found it easier to be empathetic and deeper with strangers than Dean did. ((We saw in 1x11 how Dean struggled to work the case without Sam, even contemplating aloud to a couple whom he was trying to warn saying: “My brother could give you this puppy dog look, and you’d just buy right into it.”)) It just stabs my heart a little more to think of Dean during those two years, having to pick up the slack on his own for the first time without Sam. But it also makes me happy to see that look in Dean’s eyes when he glances at his Sammy back by his side again. -- source link
