theia-mania-comics:Queen of the Dead 007About two months have passed since the events in my previous comic Anthesteria, when Persephone finally was more honest about her wish not to have children and how she felt suffocated by the constant focus on fertility and childbirth in the world around her. Demeter was quite shocked and they haven’t really talked about it properly.Mormo and Lamia were some kind of ghosts or demons who were believed to kill babies and women in childbirth. They had once been ordinary women who killed their own children. There was also a third, Gello, who died as an unmarried virgin. According to Restless Dead by Sarah Iles Johnston, it was not by marriage per se but rather by childbirth and nurture that a female was understood to have fulfilled her obligations to the family. So Gello, Mormo, and Lamia sort of represented what would happen to those women who failed or refused. -- source link
