rainbowsixreader:down-with-commies: siryouarebeingmocked:qwertyu858: emmaubler: siryouarebeingmocked: “This racist, genocidal, supremacist, mass murdering villain is right, actually.” - Guerillatech, 2021 Magneto is a hero because it’s marketable. I’m also pretty sure he’s turned away from the “racial superiority” thing if he’s working with the X-Men full-time. “It’s okay to murder innocent people if you say it’s in the name of saving the planet or because something bad happened in your past!”See, this is why sympathetic villains are such a pain. Not because of the villains themselves, but because fans of the villain blow past “This complex villain is my favorite” straight to “Well, because they’re my favorite character it means they’re a hero!!!” Anti-heroes and villains are fun, but they’re not called heroes because they are sometimes (or all the time) not good people. It’s okay to like them, but if you have to lie to yourself about who they are to like them are you really a fan? I mean, you are right but magneto went full anti-hero/hero since some years ago. Like he hasnt been a villian for a long while in the comics (perhaps some 20 years? I am not 100% sure tbh) Like I dont post about that bc I actually love him as a villian but current magneto droped the whole “lets genocide all humans except captain america and my kids/grandkids” and he is (until the last x-men comic I read like 5 or so years ago so I could be wrong) currently just a fighter for mutant rights. That’s a good argument, though he’s apparently danced back and forth over the line a few times.I’m pretty sure a lot of his ‘fans’ are fans of the movie version. Who was actually an occasionally-genocidal racial supremacist for most of his time onscreen, when he wasn’t an angry guy seeking revenge.I strongly doubt that Twitter OP was old enough to read comics in the 80s or 90s. Mags was usually supposed to be sympathetic, but wrong. The violent extremist to Xavier’s relatively peaceful moderate. He’s switched from good to evil guy as recently as Secret Empire, which was in 2017. Magneto is a hardcore villain, he has brutally slaughtered innocent people. Depending on the storyline he has ranged from sympathetic to cold blooded killer. What he is, is an UNDERSTANDABLE villain. His worldview is wrong and has the capacity to bring about nothing but an endless cycle of violence…. but, given what he went through, it is understandable why he has this worldview. Not everyone is able to come through horrific trauma with a deeper appreciation of life. I will never forget that legendary moment when Magneto met RedSkull and the literal Nazi complimented the Haulocaust survivor on being a better racial purist than the Nazis ever were. -- source link
