He is supposed to have called out “Good God, what is this?” clasped his page’s hand and said “my boy, this is death.”His only legitimate child, Princess Charlotte, had died in childbirth in 1817. Therefore, he was succeeded to the throne by his younger brother, the Duke of Clarence, who would reign as William IV. -- source link
