anindoorkitty:Oh the Byronic irony!! “he was the only person we saw for the part. It just happened…We were looking for someone who was a brilliant young actor, the point of going back to the beginning and seeing Sherlock and Doctor Watson much younger is very rarely done, so we knew sort of what age we wanted and we wanted someone not really famous yet but on the verge because they were good and very well respected, someone who looked quite, sort of, angular and tallish and thin and all that. But what Benedict’s brought to it, is a different kind of sex appeal. He’s got quite Byronic curly hair and he is very distant, which is all from the original, that’s what Sherlock Holmes is. He is not a people person. It is a bit like Mr. Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, the fact that he is aloof and arrogant proves to be a great aphrodisiac “ - Mark Gatiss (x) “Byronic heroes abound, but few actors have pursued and portrayed them with such relish as Benedict Cumberbatch. With few exceptions, the characters he brings to life are the embodiment of the Byron’s ideal: tortured, brilliant, and proud. And gorgeous.” - Laura Sook Duncombe (x)“Gatiss said Cumberbatch’s first response to the “carefully composed” Victorian pitch was: “Can I have my hair cut?”Gatiss said Cumberbatch was “obsessed” with his hair.” - Wenlei Ma (x)“Benedict Cumberbatch hates Sherlock’s hair. Here’s one thing he especially hates doing: growing his hair. As he told The Times, “I can’t think of a wittier or even accurate comparison, but I just think it makes me look a bit like… a woman.” - Ross Jones (x)this is so unfair, im far too distracted by benedict’s prettiness to even bother to read what he has to say -- source link
