Torus Convolution Explained. These animations have featured on my blog for over 2 years now are an illusion created by the eye. The top animation appears to twist while the bottom model appears to rotate. They are exactly the same models and are animated in exactly the same way, just different camera angles. Explanation:The bottom animation is the truest to what is actually going on. The bottom model rotates 360 degrees per loop. In the top model or from a side view the black and white lines are just the right size that when every frame passes, the black and white lines, line up to where the eye is focused thus completely transforming what is actually going on. This could successfully be executed with a real life model inside of a dark room with a strobe light tuned to the human eye. It would make a very interesting art piece and an interesting project for a 3D printer! -- source link
