Bi-coloured sunset. As the light of the rising or lowering sun passes through an increasing amount of our atmosphere, it gets scattered or absorbed and re radiated as lower wavelength light by the particles within our airy envelope, leaving behind the residual low energy red and orange wavelengths we typically see at these times of day. The higher energy wavelengths are scattered more, and the more air the rays pass through, the greater the effect. In this shot, the effect produces a bi-coloured orb, as more and more of the high energy wavelengths get affected as the sun nears the Indian Ocean off Sri Lanka, leaving yellow as the dominant colour in the top half and red in the bottom.LozImage credit: Mike Roch -- source link
