trailthesun:Mt. Hood Wilderness June 09, 2015 | Trail the SunChasing Avalanche LiliesI was so inspired and excited to go here. Due to it being peak season in the Zip Lining industry I am at work practically every day sending people down zip lines. I saw a photo my good friend took of this area and when I finally had a day off I begged him to take me. This is a previously burned area in the Mt. Hood Wilderness. Burns turn forests into meadows before the trees grow back, making my favorite type of forest. Pine trees with only ground cover. Burn areas are also known for wild flowers. So when I saw that this area was covered in my favorite flowers in my friend’s photo I had to go. I was looking to see fields of wild Avalanche Lilies. When we go there we didn’t have to go up very far on the trail to get to what we were looking for. However, to my disappointment because of the heat, only four days after my friend took his photo the lilies had dried up and started to die. I was able to find a few that were still hanging on, so I was able to picture in my head how beautiful it must have been. Even with them all dried up it was still beautiful, there were still Bear Grass Lilies, Lupin and wild strawberries! We stayed and found a good spot with a stunning, close up view of Mt. Hood and relaxed until the sun set to get to take pictures and witness the stars.I found this area very special and the whole time we were up there we only saw 4 people. Because of this I am choosing not to share the trail number so it may stay relatively untouched and that I can go back to this special place and have it be the way I left it.If you want to see the photo that inspired me to go here follow this link. The rebirth of a forest after a wildfire is such a beautiful process. What started as a burnt forest covered in ash a few years ago has turned into this!
