doriansennui:I’m tired of seeing posts where people living in the West go in on Dove for selling skin-whitening products in Asia, but completely ignore the fact that other brands and corporations do the exact same thing. I don’t believe that you’re effectively boycotting anything if you shun one brand only to replace with another brand that sends the same message: that women the world over should aspire to Euro-centric beauty standards. So the real question is: Are you ready to give up L’Oreal products? Neutrogena products? Garnier? Nivea? Olay? Clean & Clear? What about the corporations that own these brands? Will you forgo all Johnson & Johnson products? Procter & Gamble products? I’m not suggesting that you boycott all these companies. Actually, I don’t think you can unless you are very wealthy, because most of the stuff that we buy off the supermarket shelves is made by these conglomerates and purchasing alternatives can be a costly affair. But I hope seeing the number of companies that engage in these practices will help people make a more informed purchase the next time they go shopping. -- source link
