horde-of-impressions:wretchedor30:flavoracle:wretchedor30:flavoracle:flavoracle:flavoracle:flavoracle:wretchedor30:flavoracle:thewormbo:flavoracle:This is happening right now on Twitter! (Source) Different outlets have been mailed giant pieces of a Contraption card from Unstable, and they’re being shared and put together!! AHHHHHHHH!!!! Dogsnail Engine (backside or token?)Artifact - Contraption (uncommon)Whenever [???] Dogsnail Engine, target [???] life equal to the [???] among creatures [you control?].I think @hazoretspartyfavors created the perfect image for this situation… I think the final card is going to have an effect that counts the number of creature types among creatures its controller controls. (P.S. It is abundantly clear to me that my Contraption speculation was 100% wrong, and as promised, I am still 1000% excited for Contraptions!!) Looking at how the images sync up, seems likely to be merged. There’s no way that “pti” of Contraption in the type like would be that close to the word Artifact. Also, no casting cost.I think the reason it has no casting cost is because the card begins the game face down on “Sprocket 3” (whatever that means.) Good catch on the “pti” of the “Contraption” subtype being too close to the Artifact type. There’s obviously more going on here. Two other people on Twitter have confirmed they have packages waiting at home from @wizardsmagic so hopefully we’ll know more once they manage to open them up and share what’s inside! WE HAVE ANOTHER PIECE!! (Source)It’s coming together! (Looks like this is also linked to whoever writes @theunquirer blog) OK, so the ability of the Contraption says this: “Whenever you crank Dogsnail Engine, target player gains life equal to the greatest power among creatures you control.” That seems pretty straightforward, except for the “crank” action. But on the backside of the card it has instructions about a “CRANK! counter” moving to different “sprockets” depending on a condition at the beginning of your upkeep. This is still very mysterious. Two more pieces! (Source) As exciting as this all is, I think I need to step away from it for a little while. Responsibility beckons, and my ADHD brain is on stimulation overload right now. If anyone else is interested, feel free to keep updating things here! I’ll be back later. At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control a Contraption, move the CRANK! counter to your next sprocket and crank anynumber of that sprocket’s Contraptions. (Sprocket 1 follows Sprocket 3.)– So where is sprocket two? or sprocket four?OK, we now have 8 out of 9 pieces revealed (Source) So “cranking” seems pretty to understand. You attach your Contraption to one of three cranks, and at the beginning of your upkeep you trigger the effects for all your Contraptions on Sprocket 1, 2, or 3. (Depending on which sprocket the CRANK! counter is moved to.) But we still don’t know how Contraptions are “assembled” and put into play. They have no casting cost, so they aren’t cast, and Steamflogger Boss doesn’t let Riggers target which Contraptions they assemble, so it must be random. At this point I suspect that as you draft or build a deck for Unstable, you also build a separate “deck” with all Contraption cards. Creatures in Unstable (such as Riggers) would have abilities on them that would cause them to “Assemble a Contraption,” which would allow the player to reveal the top card of their Contraption deck and put it on the battlefield. That’s my best guess at this point. Thoughts? So it’s like that mechanic from Tarkir! I like it, it’s random, like contraptions should be!I don’t think these are printed on the front and back of the same card. It’s complete!! (Source) Adorable shell doggo turns the wheel to power the engine! Guess we’ll be waiting until Monday to find out how Contraptions get assembled (I still suspect a separate deck in the Command Zone) but it’s sure fun to see a genuine, official Contraption card!! (Also, it does beg the question, “Can a card be ‘silver-bordered’ if it has no border at all?”) -- source link
