It’s actually the beginning of an epic journey in a whale’s belly.Here’s the full story:Nothing says summer like a dip in the pool!In this scene from an illuminated Bible, Jonah is being “helped” overboard by comrades who were convinced his presence on board was causing the storm that threatened their ship. The outline of a whale can be seen through the waves, ready and waiting to swallow Jonah whole once he reaches the water. Thankfully, God rescued Jonah after three days in the whale’s belly, in answer to his fervent prayers. The scene is enclosed within a letter “E”, with the artist cleverly treating the “E”s horizontal cross-bar as a physical object over which to tip Jonah’s body.#ThyCaptionBe is a celebration of modern interpretations of medieval aesthetics.
