Genesis of the Daleks is such a fab serial. I kinda feel it can be a bit controversial to say that, at times - I see so many debates wherein some folk automatically choose it as their favourite without even thinking about it, while others rail against it for precisely that reason, but I love it to bits. I love it for lots of reasons. I love all three lead characters and the way they bounce off each other - they have such fantastic chemistry. I love that Harry gets to save the Doctor’s life twice and gets to be the sensible one telling the Doctor to stop making a fuss because they don’t want their captors to know how special the time ring is. I love that although Sarah gets separated from her friends early on and is frightened and alone and ends up working as a slave, she never gives up and never loses her spirit, inspiring a slave revolt almost as soon as she gets there. I love how badass Harry is when holding a gun on Ravon and manhandling Nyder. I love Sarah’s neverending capacity for making friends wherever she goes. I love that Harry and the Doctor both try a spot of cos-play - first dressing up as Thal guards, then Harry as a Kaled officer. I love watching the Doctor crossing horns with Davros - this is their first and most iconic meeting, and it sends shivers down my spine. I love the performances of the guest characters - Davros and Nyder and Ravon and Sevrin. I love that Harry is allowed to be competent and assured in this story, following the Doctor’s lead throughout without question, even though he is visibly shaken at times. I love that when the Doctor believes Sarah and Harry are dead, his grief is obvious, even though he doesn’t let it stop him carrying on with the mission - and I really, really love how happy he is when he is reunited with them. And I could go on…but you get the picture! -- source link
