Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s volatile behaviour took a fresh turn today in city council when he physically blocked Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong from approaching the chair to submit a motion requesting that the mayor take a leave of absence. The threatening body language could not be more obvious. Minnan-Wong, the son of a Chinese immigrant and a conservative politician with mayoral ambitions, has become the principal target of the Ford brothers’ anger in the past week, supposedly because he’s being “opportunistic” in his calls for the mayor to stand down. Personally I believe that racism, once again and as usual, is at play here. Countless voices have been coming down on Rob Ford in the past two weeks, but Rob and Doug Ford have publicly singled out the Chinese guy as a particularly egregious, deceitful, sneaky traitor who needs to be verbally and physically bullied into submission.I don’t think it’ll work – I mean, a city councillor isn’t going to drop a motion just because some big white dude got up in his face and snarled. This is how the Fords think City Hall operates? That’s probably as ridiculous as anything else the mayor has done to humiliate himself in his joke of a mayorship. -- source link
