womenagainstfeminism:http://womenagainstfeminism.tumblr.com/submitYou’re right - critiquing feminism as a movement is important. That’s important for every movement. It’s how people stay grounded and are able to figure out what is reasonable and responsible to advocate for. It’s also how we figure out that groups who need us are being shunned by our movement, and WOC and transwomen have historically had these problems in feminist groups. And that’s something that feminists are trying to work on and correct. We’re not there yet, true. But we’re developing. We’re developing in the same way that the United States is still developing and still working towards equality for the LGBT community and POC.Aside from the fact that misandry can’t actually exists (kind like reverse racism can’t actually exist - sorry), it’s true that a small portion of feminists hate men, the LGBT community, and POC. But saying that this applies to all feminists is - like I’ve said before - like saying that all Christians are like the Westboro Baptist Church, all white people are racist, and all men are sexist pigs. You’re taking a minority and using it to paint over the majority. I’m glad that you’re open to critiquing a movement. That’s important! But there are critiques that could have been/were leveled at the Civil Rights Movement as well. Do you know what that did? It inspired Civil Rights leaders and supporters to make the movement better. It didn’t throw out the extremely important baby with the tiny percentage of bathwater. Also - feminists that you speak to probably aren’t upset that you don’t feel oppressed. I, for one, and thrilled that you are happy with your life! It’s the other women you mentioned in there that we’re fighting for. And when you acknowledge that these are problems that feminism can help these women with, then reject feminism, it’s upsetting. It’s basically like saying you don’t want to try to help them because your life is fine. By that token, no one who is wealthy should give to charity, no one who isn’t hungry should cook, no one who has what they want should manufacture anything. It would be anarchy, right? Well, think of feminism the way you would any of those other things: something to support the people who need it, and something that will be there for you if you ever need it. -- source link
