Moonlight, playing over the Middle SeaThe views of our globe from space are always stunning, according to those lucky enough to have made it up there, and they have changed our perceptions of our planet over the last few decades, offering a unique and new perspective. In the accompanying photo, the Italian coast and the isle of Elba (where Napoleon was briefly exiled before Waterloo) lay under the Lunar orb, and its reflected light glinting off the sea is shimmering in a variety of beautiful patterns, some natural, some human. Where islands are present or the sea wavy, dark areas result from the absence of reflection, while the V shaped wakes at the top of the photo are the trails of ships, showing us that the winds that night were blowing from right to left. Some of the swirling gyres of water circulating around the basin are also visible.LozImage credit: NASAhttp://go.nasa.gov/20STVns -- source link
