Not a brew today. Sorry y’all, I’ve got a few things that I’ve been working on, but I’ve been real busy these last few weeks. So what I have today is more of an idea, some inspiration. I’ve been getting more into warhammer lately, and the idea of the vortex really fascinates. So here is my idea: long ago, the gods looked upon their creations, and found them wanting. Every race had failed its patron deity, every people deemed unworthy of salvation. And so the gods came up with a plan. They came before the mortals of the world, and visited upon them a punishment, as well as a challenge. The afterlife would be cut off from all of mortal kind, their souls damned to oblivion. As the masses sat in stunned silence at this proclamation, the gods again showed their vast power, and raised a fresh continent at the center of the world. At the center of this ringed continent, there would now sit a shrine, and within that shrine an artifact called The Celestial Key. The gods told mortal kind that whichever race was able to claim The Celestial Key would be allowed once more into heaven, and every other race would be forever damned. And so began the wars for heaven. The many races of the world descended upon the new continent, only to find that The Celestial Key had not been left unprotected. A legion of angels guarded the continent, and the armies of mortals broke upon that celestial legion like waves upon rocks. Centuries of desperate warfare followed, armies raised, mages trained, siege engines built, all fell before the radiant fury of the Legion of Heaven. Beaten and broken, the mortal races were forces to cease their invasion of the the blessed continent, and turned to other methods of completing the god’s challenge. Mages, spies, and assassins bloomed, all hoping that subterfuge or ritual could gain them the Celestial Key. The mortal races turned their armies upon each other, convinced that they each held resources or secrets that would be key to breaching the shrine’s defenses. Necromancy and other perversions of immortality emerged, and entire nations cursed the gods, refusing to play their games, and instead seeking to thwart the divine challenge. The world has now reached an uneasy equilibrium. No race has gained the upper hand over another, no army has pierced the Celestial Legion, and no perfect plan has yet been executed. But this equilibrium is fragile, and even the efforts of even a few could throw everything out of balance, throw the world into chaos, or even finally claim The Celstial Key. -- source link
