sevensneakyfoxes:scifigrl47:xbean:squal0r-vict0ria:Parenting done rightI hate stuff like that. Problem A: Sexism.Problem B: An alarm clock is not a fun gift for anyone. Alarm clocks exist to make you get out of bed and no amount of bad super hero art can make that a GOOD GIFT. Yesterday I was in a Toys-R-Us with a coworker picking up a gift for her kid and I saw this little guy in a Captain America t-shirt playing in the “girls” section of the store (INSERT EYEROLL HERE). He was in this kitchen set/house thing and was GOING TO TOWN, building these cakes and cooking them in an oven. Plus, he had this little sushi set out and a turkey and was, IDK, cooking an international feast. There was also a Dora the Explorer and some kind of Robot-doll (maybe transformers?) on the shelf and he was chattering away to them. It was DISGUSTINGLY ADORABLE.The child yelled something to his mom (he was speaking what I think was Korean, so I have no idea what he said) and the mom, who was pushing a stroller and checking out something on the shelves, let out this exasperated sigh and marched over to the kid.And I was really, really sad because I was like, “she’s going to go over there and berate her kid for playing with the girl’s toys.” Because I’ve seen it before. She marched right up to him and said, “I told you, not until Christmas!”MY HEART GREW TEN SIZES.(The kid continued making cakes.)Marketers (and parents) need to STOP pushing genderized toys. IT IS STUPID. -- source link
