peachpulpeuse:Botanical illustrations in a 16th-century Italian edition of De Materia Medica, an herbal-medicine treatise originally by Pedanius Dioscorides. The illustrations (ca. 1564-1584) are by artist and botanist Gherardo Cibo. Sourced from the Public Domain Review. One of my dream jobs is to be paid to properly scan gorgeous botanical art in the public domain (at least 300 dpi, at real-life size) , so we can all appreciate these things and even have them printed out to hang on our walls.I say this b/c my favorite of this set, on the lower left corner, at 300 dpi is 2″ by 3″, which is patently absurd. -- source link
