The Gulf of Mexico by nightThe state of Texas has become known as “fracking country”, which is fully demonstrated by this night-time photograph overlooking the southern American states and the Gulf of Mexico. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station captured this wide-angle image — a beaded string of cities all the way from New Orleans to Mexico City illuminate the Gulf Coast, with the moon’s reflection shining brightly in the Gulf’s waters. Much more recently, a less condensed series of lights lit up south-central Texas; these lights are from well sites that illuminate the extent of fracking that covers almost 330 kilometers of the region between Houston and San Antonio.-DCPhoto credit: http://1.usa.gov/1JGiuOVFracking lights in North Dakota: http://n.pr/1Tjw3pshttp://bit.ly/1CnZB0V -- source link
