theauspolchronicles:It’s been one year since marriage equality became law in Australia. Dec 7th Parliament went into division and it was clear that an overwhelming majority decided it was time. The Yes vote had won and it was time for it become law.I’ll never forget the first time I was at a wedding and they spoke those wonderful words: “marriage in Australia is defined as the union between two people…” not a man and a woman two people. One year on and the world hasn’t ended, society hasn’t collapsed, and no one has been jailed for being opposed to marriage equality. Seems like all the things we were warned about in the No vote scare campaign were just a load of lies.Instead what we have is over 5000 new marriages. Love recognised by the law as to be valid and equal to everyone else. We have happy couples, families, people… we have a better society than we did just over a year ago.To know this is in my country, where hopefully I can marry the woman of my dreams, makes everything worth it. My love and I may live across the world from each other but I’ll be damned if I don’t marry her.I love you so much @disneyfan50 , forever and always -- source link
