madeleine92posts:I and @tudorgirl1027 decided to make a post on Henry VII’s achievements, listing them in points, given it seems people tend to forget he was king first and foremost, and a very good one on top of that.I provided the gifs, thetudorgirl1027 made the list.Accomplishments of Henry VII as King: - successfully defeated several rebellions and uprisings against his reign - was able to keep his crown for almost a quarter century, died in his bed- ended what was later known as “The Wars of the Roses” and began a new age - The age of the Tudor Dynasty - facing a treasury that was nearly bankrupt, he accumulated an enormous fortune for the English crown, earning a reputation of wealth that gave the English crown more prestige in Europe- secured major alliances with Spain and Scotland, through the marriages of his two eldest children. The Spanish alliance would help give legitimacy to the new Tudor Dynasty. The Scottish alliance was aimed at making peace between the feuding countries and later would lead to an union of the crowns. The treaty with Spain included provisions to improve trade between the two countries- signed the Treaty of Étaples with the French Kung Louis which stated that in exchange for the English accepting French control of Brittany, the French would withdraw their support for the Yorkist pretender, Perkin Warbeck, and pay England a yearly income which increased Henry’s income by around 50% (similar to a treaty made by Edward IV with France) - signed the Intercursus Magnus, an agreement favorable to English trade. - through his policies, he helped to centralize government, giving the crown much more power, also helped end the feudal system which had contributed to several decades of civil war. Overall, he increased the power and prestige of the monarchy, rebranding it into a center of power and wealth with himself and his new dynasty at the center of it. -- source link
