capaldisthebest:theconfessionsofawhovian:Ashilder/Me has got to be one of the most purposeless and inconsistently written characters in ALL of Doctor Who. She records her memories of her ENTIRE lifetime in her diaries yet claims to have limited memories. She played a role in Clara’s death, and two episodes later, became her travelling companion. Seriously, what was the point of having the character AT ALL? Or, did low ratings in Series 9 force the BBC/Steven Moffat to cast a high-profile actress (Maisie Williams) in the show for the sake of stunt-casting - even if the character that was being portrayed made no sense whatsoever?Submit your own confessionsI agree with 90% of the above. I think originally, the part Maise Williams came to play, was written as different characters. As pointed out above, there are far too many inconsistencies, and no real commonalities to the character fro one episode to the next. I don’t know what the ratings for the show were at the time. But, I do think they decided to keep Maisie around a little longer to capitalize off of the Game of Thrones popularity. The lack of consistency from one appearance of Me the the next is deliberate. It represents how her human mind deals with immortality; she experienced so much over hundreds and thousands of years that she becomes unrecognizable from her young self. The show explicitly points this out.And it’s honestly not that much different from comparing a 95 year old to their 16 year old self. A lot of people end up extremely different from how they were as children or teens. -- source link
