count-cinnamon:Toy Infinity Train Set Update!!So I remodelled the cars (pencil for scale).I knew there needed to be compromises from the moment I started modelling at HO guage (not scale). The Infinity Train be a chonky boi and commercially available wheels are only yea big. A normal train is tall and lean but these cars be a lot wider. I shall discuss my compromises:Couldn’t make the cars bigger without making the train look like it’s straddling monorail, but I ended up with dimensions slightly larger than the previous models I posted. The cars canonically consist of 5 sets of wheels each which is ridiculous for my purposes. 3 would’ve looked nice but as I started designing the trucks (wheel holders), it was clear the wheels would be too close together for structural parts of the trucks to run in between. 2 seemed appropriate, which is what trucks usually come in on real trains anyway (although real trains usually have two trucks on either end; these cars are very very short). The ladders that run down the grooves along the front and back of each car, along with all the other details were simplified to match the tolerances involved in SLA printing. I reckon I did pretty good job (ig I should’ve rendered a close up of it).I also split the top and bottom parts of the train to make them easier to mould and cast.Right now I’m realising I forgot to add the door hole, but I will be making a lot of revisions before I commit and order prototypes. Currently, I think I’ll put off building the engine until I’ve perfected my process with the cars first. Expect more updates soon. -- source link
