thefingerfuckingfemalefury:scotsdragon:pimentogirl:dmsilvisart:airagorncharda:why does nobody on tumblr talk about this movie?I mean seriously:“The alumni cast of a cult space TV show have to play their roles as the real thing when an alien race needs their help”It’s a Star Trek spoof where the actors get sucked into a real space battle. It has Tim Allen (Buzz Lightyear, Santa Claus, and Tim Taylor of Tool Time), Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett from Ghostbusters, and Ellen fucking Ripley from Alien), and Alan Rickman (SEVERUS SNAPE) playing the Kirk, Uhura, and Spock rolesSigourney had lines like:“Well, Alex, at least you had a part, okay? You had a character people loved! I mean, my TV Guide interview was six paragraphs about my boobs and how they fit into my suit. No one even bothered to ask me what I DO on the show.”and“Look, I have one job on this lousy ship. It's stupid, but I’m gonna do it, OKAY?”which spoke directly to how ridiculously sexist so many female roles on TV (especially shows that can get away with throwing their female characters into skin-tight suits) are written, and also perceived by the fanbase.Alan Rickman plays a character who is pretty much 900% done the entire way through the movie, and still managed to give me massive amounts of feels.Tony Shalhoub (Monk) plays a perpetually stoned Scotty character who falls for a hot alien chick. Yes, there is interspecies romance in this movie.Yup, an interspecies couple where the chick has tentacles and the guy is really into it.The villain is played/voiced by Robin Sachs (Ethen Rayne from Buffy)Sam Rockwell (we know him as Justin Hammer from Iron Man 2) plays an extra. One of the awesome aliens is played by Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars’s dad)This cutieback when he was this cutieThe above cutie is Justin Long (star in another all time favorite movie of mine, Accepted) who plays one member of a group of fans who analyze the show like we do with our shows, and ends up saving the fucking day because they analyzed everything so well. That’s right. This movie is about fans saving the actors when the show turns out to be real.If you haven’t seen it…Go watch it.Now.A favorite of mine It often gets included in the top ten of Star Trek movies when ‘Trekkies’ are asked to rate the film’s, too. I love it. It gently mocks without being sneering and the fans become heroes who help save the day. It’s wonderful in so many ways.It also provided, curiously, a solution to the problem of Star Trek Nemesis, and its place in the progression of films. Basically anyone in Star Trek fandom has at least vaguely heard of the odd-and-even numbered film rule, which goes that the even numbered films are good, but the odd numbered films are bad. Motion Picture was kinda lame and boring and took way too long to get to its point, Wrath of Khan was great and epic and operatic. The Search for Spock was somewhat flawed and didn’t live up to its potential, Voyage Home was a fun comedy that’s genuinely funny even now.The Final Frontier was terrible and ranks up there as one of the worst Trek movies, the Undiscovered Country was a worthy send-off to the TOS crew.Generations was an utterly terrible and pointless film that gave Captain Kirk the worst death scene ever, First Contact was an exciting action romp.Insurrection was a genuinely lacklustre story that has serious moral problems and a solid disconnect… but rather than being good, Nemesis was a shitty send-off to the TNG crew and was far from a worthy entry. Riddled with plot-holes, and directed by someone who didn’t know what he was doing with Trek. Now, you might think that this means that Nemesis broke the rule of even-numbered films being good, but it kind of didn’t. You see, Galaxy Quest came out between the release of Insurrection and Nemesis, and was great, which provided a weird extra step in the Trek film progression. Nemesis was terrible because it was in fact the eleventh Star Trek film. This rule then extends to the new films.Star Trek (2009) was actually the twelfth film, and thus was actually pretty good if a somewhat mindless action film at times. But then, so was First Contact.Star Trek Into Darkness as the thirteenth film was pretty fucking terrible in places, and its choices with Khan left much to be desired. It was an over-derivative remake of Star Trek II with none of the actual weight that film had.Star Trek Beyond was a great return to form. A film that properly recaptured the camaraderie and sense of adventure of the original series, as well as having a retroactively interesting villain and it was fun overall.Which of course means that we all kinda want the Quentin Tarantino film to come out before the fourth AOS film.^ A SOUND THEORY I may need to watch this… -- source link
