alwaysstarwars:The Hildebrandt brothers’ illustrations for Shadows of the EmpireLooking at those pictures of Xizor, the EU really could be patently ridiculous at times. You say Ridiculous, I say:Compare his outfits to Amidala’s. We’re looking at a shift backwards from the simplistic White Senate Gown that Leia wears to a powerful Statement Outfit. These are blatantly Imperial Court clothes, or they are Falleen-standard. They may be both. Not to mention we see most other Falleen images wearing just as elaborate costumes. What I’d like to know about is the rise of Black Sun post the likely fall of the Trade Federation. It’s a similar company on the surface, merely with gangster work and information and smuggling on the side. What would be fun for me of course is a couple of Black Sun showdowns with Car'das. They both work for the Empire (or at least their leaders do and the companies have fewer Imperial Entanglements for it).And they both disappear (Jorj) or die (Xizor) within about six months of each other. So for six months Xizor’s only direct competitor across all fronts of his business (does Xizor do extortion? If so except for that bit) is Talon Karrde who first has to fight off everybody standing between him and being the head of the organisation. Talon’s not dumb. He’d be able to take over the spots that Black Sun loses, but either he drops (unlikely) or doesn’t know about (probable) the Imperial information work that was part of the Car'das business. So for six months Xizor doesn’t have competition in that front. What I’m saying is I want Jorj and Xizor snarking at each other across a table/room (possibly with Thrawn trying not to sigh because there are two aliens here and he’s one and Jorj isn’t getting along with the other). -- source link
