RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK’S GLEE: FINALE EDITION Episode 6.12 & 6.13 “2009&rd
RANDOM THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK’S GLEE: FINALE EDITION Episode 6.12 & 6.13 “2009”/”Dreams Come True”The final episode of Glee is called “Dreams Come True” because of course it is. This flashback episode is a TERRIBLE idea. The fun of this show was watching these kids grow up and none of them can believably pass for their younger selves (especially Kurt). That being said: There is something bizarrely fun about seeing all these characters regressed to their first season selves. It’s been six years and Glee hadn’t performed “Popular’ yet? What the hell kind of showchoir were those people running? God bless Lea Michele. She slips back into S1 Rachel so seamlessly. This would probably be a lot more fun if I remembered a single thing that happened in the Glee pilot. “It’s time for your attitude to match your outfits.” Mercedes’ advice to Kurt is also presumably how the Glee writers create new characters. Is this deepening Glee history? Contradicting it? Who even remembers?!?! Mr. Schuester’s audition notes are giving me such second hand embarrassment. (“Great energy!”) Also, there are only five people auditioning. You probably don’t need to take notes. Huh, Mr. Schu has had basically zero character development in six seasons. Waiting 37 minutes to introduce Sue Sylvester is the most restrained Glee has ever been. Thank god this show is giving Terri so much screentime. That’s exactly what I wanted from a celebratory finale- the return of a hated character from season one. Obviously I cried at “Don’t Stop Believing.” I just remembered Kurt and Blaine are married and burst out laughing. I hope Marley, Ryder, and Jake are somewhere not pining over high school every single second of the day. YOU get a Glee Club! And YOU get a Glee Club! And YOU get a Glee Club! Why is this show so obsessed with the image of Mr. Schu playing a ukelele? That long-haired gay kid is getting SO much attention from the camera and I’m pretty sure he was introduced last week. After an entire season, the show finally remembered Blaine and Sam were best friends at one point. Okay, I laughed at the Dalton boys still wearing their blazers. Well done.Whenever I want to tell my friends about opening for Beyonce’s world tour, I always do so alone on a stage while making them stand in the audience. Mercedes that dramatic exit was a really, really weird thing to do. It wouldn’t be Glee unless Sue is an entirely different character in every single scene. Okay, that Becky/Sue moment was really sweet. Man, Becky’s been there since season one. Jane Lynch and Matthew Morrison actually sound really nice together on “The Winner Takes It All.” Also, we’re all thinking about Mamma Mia!, right? Marriage turns Blaine into Kurt? Freaky. This episode needs 95% more Rachel Berry. Also more group numbers. Also what the hell is Rachel doing in a maxi skirt? Why is this “five years later” structure so confusing to me? Why are there so many time jumps on this show? Pairing Rachel with Jesse St. James is so random and yet so satisfying. (But maybe just because the actors are real-life friends?) Still mad the show didn’t have Rachel and Jesse go off to star in Spring Awakening together. Making Rachel pregnant with Kurt/Blaine’s baby during her Tony win is a weird choice, right?Matthew Morrison SOLD that response to Rachel’s acceptance speech. Finn’s mom might secretly be the best actor in Glee history. QUINN!!! Oh good, more screentime for the long-haired gay kid. The whole episode should have been this final performance. The last thing I expected from the Glee finale was that it would be boring. And yet, here we are. -- source link
