Rosalind Franklin (1920 - 1958)Birthplace: London, UKStudy: Science (Physical Chemistry and X-ray Crystallography) Rosalind Franklin grew up in a conservative household, her father was highly against her receiving higher education besides what she had received at her all-girls’ school and insisted she work as a social worker. However, Franklin went against her father and continued to study science where she worked with X-rays and learned various diffraction techniques. It was through this method that she discovered the shape of DNA, which we now call the Double-Helix. Unfortunately she was not given credit for her discovery because Watson and Crick had gotten ahold of her files and Franklin died of ovarian cancer before she was accredited for her discovery. Well-known Accomplishments: Founder of the Double Helix Sources:PBS SDSC Additional Site:PBS -- source link
