samleedraws:Mock Google Doodle for class.“Today we celebrate the 107th birthday of Alan Turing. During the Second World War, Turing played a pivotal role in cracking intercepted coded messages that enabled the Allies to defeat the Nazis, and in so doing helped win the war. It has been estimated that his work helped save over 14 million lives.Despite these accomplishments, he was never fully recognized in his home country during his lifetime, due to his homosexuality, which was then a crime in the UK. Turing was prosecuted in 1952 for homosexual acts, and accepted chemical castration treatment, as an alternative to prison. Turing died in 1954, 16 days before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning, which was determined by inquest as suicide.” Read more about him on Wikipedia.During Pride Month, we remember Alan Turing and the countless other individuals who have been persecuted just for being who they are. -- source link
