archiemcphee:Imagine traveling through the Netherlands, birthplace of post-impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh. Over your head is the dazzling sky that inspired him to paint The Starry Night and… what’s this? Beneath your feet there lies an illuminated path inspired by that very same painting. That’s exactly what you can now experience in the Dutch town of Nuenen where Studio Roosegaarde, an innovative social design lab run by artist Daan Roosegaarde and his team, have just unveiled their awesome Van Gogh-Roosegaarde Bicycle Path.Inspired by the work of van Gogh, who was a resident of Nuenen from 1883-1885, the team created a swirling, solar-powered, 1-kilometer-long bike path that’s illuminated at night by stones painted with a special paint that charges in daylight as well as embedded LEDs powered by a nearby solar array. The result is utterly enchanting as well as environmentally friendly. The opening of Studio Roosegaarde’s radiant path marks the beginning of the Van Gogh 2015 international theme year, a comprehensive cultural program celebrating Vince Gogh on the 125th anniversary of his death. The path itself connects van Gogh-related heritage locationsClick here to watch a short video about this beautiful project and here to learn more about it.[via Colossal and Twisted Sifter] -- source link
