holdtheskeletongrillby:millennium-shitpost:holdtheskeletongrillby:millennium-shitpost: millennium-shitpost:millennium-shitpost: millennium-shitpost: remanvonbahamur: millennium-shitpost: millennium-shitpost: isn’t he always he. he blew up a building because he lost a card game Nah…he blew up a because it belonged to his step father. He built a death theme park, with electric chairs, an ax murderer, guillotines, a Tetris room where the block crush you and a torture device built to drive people to insanity in 10 minutes because he lost a card game (and was trapped in a card, feeling how it is to be eaten alive for an unspecified amount of time). But this is also in a world where people being blown up, poisoned with a scorpion and burned alive are things that happen on daily basis, so…he may be a law abiding citizen… the lack of time between the end of the tournament and the actual explosion makes it highly unlikely that he got permission for it on top of that, marik and rishid were pretty clearly in japan illegally, which should have instantly disqualified them from the tournament (not counting all the things that they and other people did that should’ve gotten them all disqualified and yeah, the death-t exists too. and so do those other things, but the incompetence of the domino police force doesn’t mean no laws were broken it’s been established that murder is still illegal there. kaiba seto has killed people. he is not a law abiding citizen he can buy as many cities as he wants - ultimately, he still falls under the control of the japanese goverment and kaiba owns a gun guns are illegal in japan so no, he’s not a law abiding citizen more like “he’s rich so the laws aren’t meant for him to begin with”but in-universe he probably just beat all the lawyers at card games so no one can charge him with anything (marik also could’ve done this but he chose Drama) jinzo I’d like to point out the building he blew up was his own building on an island that may not be under the jurisdiction of any particular sovereign entity, and therefore could be exempt from any such laws about blowing things up. (Also, since when did he own a gun? I’m genuinely curious because I only remember him taking guns from people that were trying to shoot him point blank and then making use of said gun to threaten Pegasus’s people, not having one on himself anywhere to start with. His bodyguards and such had corporate sponsored gun training, so they should have the applicable permits and paperwork filed. You are able to own guns in Japan, it’s just a really strict and expensive and time-consuming process to do so - but Seto Kaiba would still be unable to do so legally as he is very underage.) i’m pretty sure you can’t blow up buildings even if you own them. something to do with “insurance fraud” and “safety hazards” and “come out of the building with your hands in the air sir”. idk lots of people were yelling and i wasn’t paying attention anywayalso i went back and checked and yeah it looks like he took the gun from a dude threatening him. having said that, i still believe he absolutely owns at least one gun, probably more than that. not legally, but he’s rich, so… If he’s in international waters unbeholden to any sovereign nation, he may not be bothering with maintaining insurance on the island. He’s filthy rich, he can pay for any damages himself if he so chose. In which case… He’s probably legally okay? No country’s laws would apply in that case, I think. I’m not a lawyer, but if you’re not in any national borders… whose jurisdiction would you even be in? I have to imagine Gozaburo bought and built on an island away from Japan specifically to avoid those pesky “laws” and “safety concerns”.DSOD Kaiba, being 18, could perhaps legally own hunting rifles, but he could not have them loaded unless presently hunting, iirc. Also, I think you have to have more than one person you know state on the record that you are sane enough to own a gun, and that might be… Well… Um… Probably not doable at this particular moment. so the variety of gun you can buy in japan is limited to shotguns and air rifles only. no handguns, no semi-autos, none of that. you can buy them for sports or hunting and that’s it. and there’s a fuckton of shit you have to go through first.i don’t think kaiba could pass the psychiatric exam if the person running it really knew what they were doing, but i also don’t know the details of those exams or how easily bribed the people in charge are.as for actually buying guns, it’s a pretty long process. for starters, kaiba couldn’t buy a hunting rifle at eighteen bc you need to have owned a shotgun in good standing for ten years before you can apply for a rifle. you also have to first apply to buy a specific gun, then buy the gun (from a licensed dealer), and then go to the police to show that you bought the correct gun for your license.there’s a lot of expenses involved in owning a gun but i’m ignoring most of that bc kaiba is rich.back to the international waters thing: while the high seas do not, by definition, belong to any sovereign nation (not accounting for territory disputes and challenges to poseidon and whatnot), this does not actually mean all crime is legal if you just take it to the ocean. otherwise fifty percent of the planet would just be a “come do your murders here” zone. certain criminal acts (usually piracy) can lead to countries exercising jurisdiction under what is known as “universal jurisdiction”, which is usually only for like war crimes and whatnot, but can also come into play when concerning violations of international environmental law. generally speaking, explosions are not overly eco-friendly.if you take nothing else away from this blog, please at least take this: you cannot commit crimes in the ocean just bc there’s technically no state claiming sovereignty. murder and eco-terrorism are still illegal on the high seas. -- source link
