docgold13: 365 DC Comics Paper Cut-Out SuperHeroes - One Hero, Every Day, All Year… October 14th - Ragman In 19th century Europe, a secluded shtetl of persecuted Jews used ancient Kabbalah magic to stitch together a powerful garment to defend themselves. The suit and cloak was a patchwork made up of various pieces of fabric taken from the clothes of loved ones who had been killed and then blessed with a special incantation that imbued it with magical properties. The wearer was bestowed incredible powers which could be used to defend the shtetl. This defender was called The Ragman and being chosen to act as this Ragman was both an honor as well as a costly responsibility. Jerzy Reganiewicz had been the Ragman in the early half of the twentieth century. Despite his the powers endowed by the special suit, he was unable to save his people from the invading nazi forces and he was barely able to escape with his life. Reganiewicz fled to America, relocating to in a poor neighborhood of Gotham City. Reganiewicz brought the ragman suit with him and it was later discovered by his young son, Rory. Rory ended using the suit to act as a vigilante, defending his neighborhood from local racketeers and muggers. At first, Rory assumed the Ragman suit was little more than a costume; he didn’t realize it’s magical properties nor the cost it extracted on its user. The Ragman suit possessed the various souls of its victims and those that it had failed to protect. Rory was overwhelmed by the powers of these souls and he lost himself. With the aide of Batman and Rabbi Luria, Rory was ultimately able to gain greater mastery over the Ragman suit. Now he could draw upon the strength of these souls, find guidance from them as well as draw on their various skills and attributes. Originally, the Ragman suit merely boosted Rory’s physical abilities; yet now he became a powerful magic user, learning the abilities for telepathy, teleportation, transmutation and a bevy of other magical capabilities. As The Ragman, Rory acted as a member of the Sentinels of Magic and later helped to form the Shadowpact. He has additionally been a member of The Justice League Dark. A version of Ragman features in the television show Arrow portrayed by actor Joe Dinicol. The hero first appeared int he pages of Ragman #1 (1976). -- source link
