padawanblogging:Star Wars Female Character Meme: 2/4 Outfits: Ahsoka Tano [x]The first time the viewer meets Ahsoka Tano, she wears white tights, a short skirt, a midriff baring shirt, and her headdress. Simple under normal circumstances, her first outfit takes on an air of vulnerability when one realizes that she’s a young padawan sent out to become an apprentice upon the front lines of a war. Her companions, Obi Wan and Anakin, wear the full length robes of jedi. Even her fellow padawans usually wear robes–compare Ahsoka’s outfit to Barriss Offee’s for example. The outfit however gets the point across simply and easily–Ahsoka is a child, fighting an adult war.Midway through the series, Ahsoka gets an outfit upgrade. Some things are still the same–she still wears her headdress and the same belt, but her midriff is no longer bared, she sports two lightsabers instead of one, and she wears darker, diamond-patched tights.Though it still bespeaks some vulnerability – Ahsoka still rarely wears robes like a jedi and usually wears a cloak if secrecy and stealth call for it – the message is clear that Ahsoka is growing up. Unfortunately, The Clone Wars saw fit to follow its predecessors and dress Ahsoka up in some kind of “slave” garment, as they did with Leia and Padme. This is particularly distressing because, despite what her previous outfit symbolizes, Ahsoka is still a teenager–she is not an adult nor is she treated like one. It’s also implied that Ahsoka was not fully on board with playing the role of a slave, and even though Anakin teases it’s because he’s the master, the “joke” ignores the trauma that Anakin himself endured as a slave, as well as the broader societal context of men ignoring the wishes and boundaries of teenage girls, while tapping into a history of sexualization, sexism, and misogyny that Star Wars would do well to correct instead of perpetuating. and what then after season 5? There is so much of Ahsoka that we don’t know about. We never discover the significance of her headdress to her. We never discover what she did after she took her leave of the Jedi Temple and Anakin. What happens after is a question season 6 does not deign to answer, much to my dismay because Ahsoka deserved better than that. -- source link
