msrheadcanon:2x17. “End Game” (part 2 of 2)Mulder’s panic face when he sees the destruction in Scully’s motel room. There’s not even a question about the trade for Scully. It means losing his sister again - his life’s quest - but there’s no hesitation whatsoever. In this two-parter they show how they’ve learned from each other. When they are apart, Scully does some creepy warehouse exploring, complete with a lockpick. Mulder acts like Scully when he pushes his SISTER about her story - being more skeptical rather than taking something at face value - AND THIS IS HIS SISTER. Scully is the only one Mulder trusts implicitly. Samatha pulls the “I’m your sister Fox, you have to trust me” card but even then Mulder doesn’t bend. When the trade is made, Mulder’s focus is 100% on Scully. Even when the ABH grabs “Samantha”, he is concerned with making sure Scully’s alright, not that this guy now has his sister.Scully’s tenderness when she confronts Mulder about the fact that this woman she was traded for was his sister. Mulder says Scully wouldn’t let him “go through with it”. The fact that he thinks Scully would essentially sacrifice herself so that he could have his sister back? Wow. Does he know she loves him? Probably not, but he knows that she’s incredibly loyal and would do anything for him. He’s never had anyone like that in his life before - maybe one of the reasons why the trade was such an easy decision for him. When Mulder visits the lab and finds the Samantha clones he is confronted ONCE AGAIN with the fact that the people in his life only seek to manipulate him to their own ends - not help him. All except for Scully. He takes off to the Arctic to find the ship, ditching Scully because, again, he doesn’t want to put her in any more danger. Not that he believes she can’t help him - he KNOWS she can, but he simply can’t bring her along on what he views as a nearly-suicidal mission.Scully’s expression when she reads the email - hurt, but touched, and of course fearful. When Scully goes to Skinner for help, she is simply vibrating with desperation to find Mulder. (Bless Gillian.) That doesn’t work (sort of), so she contacts his source and sleeps on Mulder’s couch to wait. Skinner steps in with his badass headbutt and Scully is off to rescue him. She calls ahead to arrange for the navy to find him at the coordinates, then immediately flies up there.Scully at the hospital is in complete control of the situation. Not only does she get the doctors at the base to follow through with her unorthodox treatment, but she goes ahead and basically leads the treatment. STEP OUT OF HER WAY MULDER’S HURT.Her face when she sees Mulder, and her tender (and completely [un]necessary) hair stroking, are so so heartwrenching. How many weeks did Mulder take to recover? And Scully was there the whole time (she didn’t have time to pack, she’s wearing the same sweater the whole time, poor thing). I think her own recent experience with being unconscious in a hospital taught her the importance of just BEING there for the person you want to get better. (And she loves him.) I love the ending scene where he regains consciousness and she’s grabbing his forearm, and smiles at him so contentedly. -- source link
