Battle of Bannockburn (Blàr Allt nam Bànag)Stirling, Scotland by Brett HolmanA major turning point in the First War of Scottish Independence (1296-1328 CE), the Battle of Bannockburn (24 June 1314), was a decisive victory for the Scottish over their English adversaries. Led by Robert the Bruce, the Scottish force defeated an English army upwards of twice its size; ultimately, this allowed the Scots to retake Stirling Castle – giving them unhindered control over the route north into the Highlands. With its victory at Bannockburn, Scotland secured its political independence from England – which was ultimately recognised 14 years later with the Treaty of Edinburgh-Northampton. -- source link
